Attendance Policy

Student Attendance and Participation Policy

Regular virtual and in-person attendance by all students enrolled in the Xenia Community Schools Online Edge program is very important. Students who engage in learning opportunities at least 20 hours per week are most likely to attain their educational goals at a pace comparable to traditional school schedules.

Weekly attendance is determined by a combination of learning activities totaling at least 20 total hours per week AND participation in mandatory in-person sessions (weekly check-ins, seminars, and testing). This chart shows how weekly absences will be recorded when a student does not meet the minimum of 20 total hours in a week:

Hours Worked Per Week Days Absent for the Week
At least 20 hours 0
At least 16 hours 1
At least 12 hours 2
At least 8 hours 3
At least 4 hours 4
Less than 4 hours 5
    • All students are required to log in to Edgenuity and complete coursework every scheduled school calendar day in order to be counted present. Students have access to learning opportunities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
    • Students should aim to complete 4 or more hours of coursework in Edgenuity each day. Students must have a total of a minimum of 20 hours of logged learning time in Edgenuity by the end of each school week. Edgenuity recommends that students complete at least 1 hour per day for every course.
    • If the student does not complete 4 hours of coursework on a scheduled workday, the time not completed must be made up during the school week so that the student has an overall accumulated time of at least 20 hours for the school week in Edgenuity.
    • If students are not passing their courses and/or not meeting the minimum 20 hours a week requirement, students will be required to attend a MANDATORY weekly work session on Thursday’s.
    • If Xenia Community Schools have a two-hour delay or snow day,  students are still required to work a minimum of 20 hours and/or maintain progress in all courses.
    • Mandatory 10-minute check-in sessions with an Online Edge teacher.
    • These sessions DO NOT count towards the 20 hours required each week, but are mandatory and already factored into the minimum instruction hours.
    • If you miss your mandatory check-in on Monday/Wednesday, you can schedule a make-up session with your teacher.
    • Missing a weekly check-in session for a week will result in a .25 day absence for the week (4 missed check-ins will result in 1 full day absence). This can also lead to the student to be removed from the program at the end of the semester.
    • If Xenia Community Schools have a two-hour delay, then you only report if your check-in is after 9:30 am.  If Xenia Community Schools have a snow day during your 10-minute check-in then Online Edge students will not report.  If you would like to make up your check-in, please email or call your Online Edge teacher to reschedule.

  • Optional sessions are offered to provide students additional support in their Edgenuity coursework (available upon request).

    • Mandatory 2-hour seminars occurring on Thursday’s throughout the school year.
    • These sessions DO count towards the 20 total hours for that week. Students must be on-task and actively participating in order for their hours to be approved.
    • Missing a monthly Thursday seminar will result in a .5 day absence for the week (2 missed seminars will result in 1 full day absence).
    • If Xenia Community Schools have a two-hour delay the day of a seminar, all students will still report to their scheduled seminar time.  If Xenia Community Schools have a snow day during your seminar then Online Edge students will not report. The seminar will not be rescheduled.

Please note: Any Xenia High School or Online Edge (9-12) student on an active Attendance Intervention Plan (AIP) will NOT be able to attend homecoming and/or prom.
